Acupuncture Eases Dizziness and Vertigo

Updated: Sep 28, 2019

Many people struggle with vertigo, the most commonly experienced form of dizziness. Though vertigo can occur on its own, it is often a symptom of another health issue such as Meniere's Disease (a condition characterized by vertigo, tinnitus, and hearing loss). Acupuncture can relieve vertigo and dizziness to restore function and balance to daily life.

Acupuncture for Vertigo & Dizziness

Vertigo and dizziness most often occur when there is an imbalance in the inner ear, usually from a fluid or calcium buildup.

With acupuncture, local circulation is stimulated to increase blood flow throughout the body. Increased circulation will break up toxins and decrease inflammation, allowing excess fluid to drain from the ear as well as breaking up calcium deposits.

Since some cases of dizziness and vertigo are caused by insufficient blood flow to the brain, more effective blood flow provided by acupuncture can restore cerebral circulation and drastically decrease symptoms.

Acupuncture also works directly with the nervous system to control balance and increase neural connectivity.

In a study of patients admitted to emergency rooms with extreme dizziness and vertigo, acupuncture was proven to have an immediate, significant therapeutic effect.

Vertigo and dizziness can be symptoms of other problems such as chronic migraines or Meniere's Disease. In studies of patients with Meniere's Disease, acupuncture had a 100% total effective rate at treating vertigo, hearing loss, and tinnitus associated with Meniere's Disease.

Chinese Herbal Medicine for Dizziness & Vertigo

Since the herbs used in Chinese herbal medicine can also stimulate circulation and decrease inflammation, they work effectively alongside acupuncture to relieve dizziness caused by insufficient blood flow to the brain as well as inner ear imbalances.

The total effective rate of herbal medicine in the same study of Meniere's Disease patients was 94.74%, where patients no longer experienced dizziness or any other symptoms after treatment.
