Acupuncture Alleviates Pregnancy Pain

Updated: Sep 28, 2019

Recent research has proven that acupuncture effectively and safely relieves pain associated with pregnancy.

Lumbopelvic pain (pain that occurs simultaneously in the back and pelvis) is a common occurrence for pregnant women, particularly in the second and third trimester. Many Western prescription drugs and analgesics are not recommended during pregnancy, leaving many women to manage their pain alone.

With acupuncture, lumbopelvic pain levels can be naturally and significantly reduced.

Acupuncture for Lumbopelvic Pain

Acupuncture directly stimulates the central nervous system, changing how the body responds to pain and reducing its effects. It also increases microcirculation and the body's production of anti-inflammatory cells and collagen, reducing inflammation and increasing blood flow to further relieve pain.

In an observational study, 88.9% of pregnant women experienced a significant improvement in their pain after acupuncture treatment.

Auricular acupuncture, a form of acupuncture where points on the ear are stimulated, has also proven effective in treating lumbopelvic pain in pregnant women. In clinical study, 81% of pregnant women had significantly lowered pain levels after one week of auricular acupuncture.
