When life gets busy, it's easy to reach for whatever snack is closest. Unfortunately, many convenience foods are loaded with refined carbohydrates, added sugars, and artificial ingredients that leave you hungry again an hour later.
One of the best ways to support your energy, blood sugar, and overall health is to keep simple, nutrient-dense snacks on hand. Choosing snacks that contain protein, healthy fats, and fiber helps keep you satisfied longer, reduces cravings, and provides your body with lasting fuel throughout the day.
Whether you're packing lunches, heading to work, traveling, or simply looking for healthier options at home, here are some of my favorite easy, real-food snacks.

Protein-Packed Grab-and-Go Snacks
1. Hard-Boiled Eggs
One of nature's perfect convenience foods. Hard-boiled eggs are rich in protein, healthy fats, and nutrients like choline that support brain health.
2. Beef or Turkey Jerky

What Makes a Healthy Snack?
When choosing snacks, I encourage patients to keep it simple. Look for foods that:
Contain protein to help you stay full.
Include healthy fats for lasting energy.
Provide fiber from fruits, vegetables, nuts, or seeds.
Contain minimal added sugar.
Are made with recognizable, whole-food ingredients.
You don't need expensive "health foods" or specialty snack bars. Many of the healthiest options are already sitting in your refrigerator or pantry.
🌿 Dr. Stephanie's Tip: One of the biggest nutrition mistakes I see is waiting until you're starving before eating. When blood sugar drops too low, it's much harder to make healthy choices, and cravings for sugary snacks become much stronger.
I recommend keeping at least two healthy snacks in your purse, work bag, gym bag, or car so you're always prepared. A little planning can make healthy eating feel much easier—and much more sustainable.
Healthy Eating Doesn't Have to Be Complicated
Small choices made consistently often have the greatest impact on your long-term health. By keeping wholesome, protein-rich snacks within reach, you'll nourish your body, support stable energy throughout the day, and make it easier to stay on track with your health goals.
Healthy eating isn't about perfection—it's about making simple choices that help you feel your best, one snack at a time.
