Berry Good Hemp Heart Porridge

Updated: May 1

I created this warm, comforting breakfast bowl as a high-protein, low-carb alternative to oatmeal. This porridge has a nutty and creamy taste and a crunchy, fruity topping. Hemp hearts (derived from the cannabis sativa plant) are a plant-based protein packed with nutrients and omega-3 fatty acids. Hemp hearts don't contain CBD or THC, so there are no psycho-active effects. This recipe is vegan, plant-based and full of healthy nutrients.

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup hemp hearts

  • 1 TBSP chia seeds

  • 1/4 cup water

  • 1/4 cup organic canned coconut milk

  • 1/4 tsp organic vanilla

  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon

  • 1/4 cup frozen organic wild blueberries

  • pinch of sea salt

  • 2 strawberries, diced

  • 2 TBSP organic sprouted pumpkin seeds

Directions:

  1. Place hemp hearts into a fine mesh strainer and rinse with water.

  2. In a small bowl, add hemp hearts and chia seeds. Stir in 1/4 cup water and cover with plastic wrap. Let soak overnight.

  3. Add hemp hearts and chia seeds to a small pot over medium-high heat.

  4. Stir in coconut cream, vanilla, cinnamon, and blueberries.

  5. Cook porridge for about 5 minutes until bubbly and thickened.

  6. Pour into a bowl and sprinkle with a pinch of sea salt, pumpkin seeds, and sliced strawberry.
