Did you know that having a beautiful smile provides a myriad of health benefits?! Oral health plays a critically important role in our overall health. Bacterial overgrowth in our mouths can spread through our blood stream and affect other areas of the body.
One example is endocarditis. This infection of the inner lining of your heart, typically occurs when bacteria from another part of your body, such as the mouth, spread through the bloodstream and attach to damaged areas in the heart. So how do we keep oral bacteria in check? Proper oral hygiene!
Many of the products on the market are filled to the brim with preservatives, chemicals, and carcinogens (cancer-causing ingredients). Fortunately, there are a wealth of natural alternatives! Here are my favorite natural and effective ways to maintain a healthy, radiant smile!

Water Flosser
I think it's safe to say that everyone has heard about the importance of flossing. But did you know that by using a Waterpik® Water Flosser you can eliminate 99.9% of plaque? This study proved that water flossing was 3x more effective than regular dental string flossing for removing plaque, and 5x more effective than brushing alone! Water flossing has also been clinically proven to be more effective than dental floss in reducing gingivitis and gingival bleeding (bleeding of the gums)?
For best results, add water flossing to your oral care routine every time you brush your teeth to leave your mouth feeling squeaky clean!

Activated Charcoal Whitening Tooth Power
Activated charcoal powder works like a miracle to remove plaque and tooth stains, plus it naturally whitens your teeth! Activated charcoal is also very effective for detoxifying the body by binding to toxins. It is a bit messy in the process, but the results are worth it!

Fluoride-Free Toothpaste
One of my favorite natural toothpastes, Uncle Harry's is made with all-natural ingredients and is completely free of fluoride, artificial sweeteners, and SLS. It contains bentonite clay, essential oils, and colloidal silver to leave your mouth feeling clean and fresh. It also encourages remineralization of tooth enamel, neutralizes acids & bacteria, and provides teeth with the calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus they need to thrive.

Oil Pulling
The benefits of oil pulling are too long to list! It whitens teeth, cures tooth decay, soothes a sore throat, and can even kill candida! Check out this article by Dr. Josh Axe to learn more of the benefits of oil pulling and how to do it!

Tongue Scraper
We all know that we need to remove the bacteria from our teeth, but some of us neglect to remove the bacteria from our tongues. Our tongues have a coating of toxins and bacteria that can cause bad breath, infections, and much more. It's important to remove that layer, and a tongue scraper is the easiest and most effective method of removal.
Why copper? Studies confirm that copper is a bacteria-resistant metal. Copper kills bacteria and is also an important mineral needed for healthy microbes in the mouth. In fact, many hospitals use copper surfaces and furnishings as a part of their antibacterial/aseptic strategy.
