Cosmetic acupuncture is becoming very popular lately and I get lots of questions about it, so in this blog I will cover the most frequently asked questions about this amazing anti-aging treatment!
Question #1: What does this treatment entail?
With cosmetic acupuncture, you will receive a regular acupuncture treatment (typically with points below the elbows and knees) to improve your overall health plus cosmetic acupuncture (points on the face) to target wrinkles and fine lines. With our Cosmetic Acupuncture program, you also receive Celluma LED wrinkle therapy, facial cupping, facial gua sha tool, and jade roller massage to enhance your results.
Question #2: How many treatments do I need and how frequently do I need to come in?
A course of treatment is 12 treatments given 1-2 times per week for 6 to 12 weeks. The frequency all depends on how quickly you want to see results. Some patients start the treatments to look their best for a special event and some prefer to come once per week. After the initial 12 treatments, most of our patients love coming in for maintenance treatments once per month.
Question #3: What does cosmetic acupuncture do and how does it work?
Cosmetic acupuncture treatments work by stimulating collagen production, improving blood circulation, oxygen and nutrients to the face, and strengthening the motor function of the facial muscles. Acupuncture needles are inserted superficially into specific areas of the face to create a painless microtrauma which triggers the release of collagen to fill in lines and wrinkles and create a firmer skin texture.
Question #4: What results should I notice?
With the increase blood circulation to the face, you will notice your complexion will be brighter and your skin tone will even out. With the increase in collagen, fine lines and wrinkles will also be diminished and you will notice firmer, more supple skin. With these improvements in your complexion, this treatment can make you look 10-15 years younger!
Question #5: How quick will I notice results?
Although you may notice a difference after the first treatment, the effects are cumulative and are usually most noticeable in 3 to 4 treatments. It takes the body about 2-3 weeks for the increased collagen production to fully kick in.
Question #6: How long do the results last?
Results from the series of treatments typically last 5 years. Maintenance treatments may also be recommended once per month.
Question #7: Does it hurt?
No. Unlike many cosmetic procedures, there is really no pain involved. Super tiny, thin gauge needles are used which produce only a minor sensation, or at the most, a slight pinch. Cosmetic acupuncture is actually extremely relaxing and most of our patients fall asleep during the treatment!
Question #8: Is there any bruising?
Minor bruising may occur with this treatment; however, precautions are taken to avoid this as much as possible, so it is not very common.
